Pioneering Quantum Computing Evolution: A Focus on UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar

Imminent Conversations

Come 16-18 January, 2024, Dubai World Trade Centre will act as the platform for a pivotal discussion: the blossoming of quantum computing in the Middle East.

Intersec 2024, with anticipation for the presence of 45,000 trade visitors alongside 1,000 exhibitors from sixty nations, is the arena for this important exploration.

Publicly Declared Information — Accelerating leaps in the evolution of quantum computing, primarily ushered in by China and the United States, have instigated a global competition to master the next age of computational discovery. Upon this backdrop, Frost & Sullivan’s research highlights swift advancement in the Middle Eastern region. At Intersec 2024, this burgeoning quantum computing presence will be examined thoroughly.

Advanced encryption brought by quantum computing promises an uplift in cybersecurity, threatening traditional encryption techniques. As we adopt this new era, precautionary measures against emerging threats are indispensable.

Though still nascent, Quantum computing anticipates changing the landscape of various sectors such as scientific research, finance, cryptography, logistics, supply chains, and drug discovery as it matures.

Rajarshi Dhar, Principal Consultant, Security, Frost & Sullivan, in anticipation of the Cyber Security Conference at Intersec 2024, shed light on this, “Quantum computing offers an unprecedented stride in computational capability, primed to revolutionise industries. The capacity to solve intricate problems faster and more effectively than conventional computers is but the tip of this transformative technology’s potential. As our understanding and competencies enhance, it’s evident quantum computing will play a significant role in modelling the future of society, technology, and science.”

Projected analytical studies foresee a pronounced growth in the quantum cryptography market in the next five years. Over half of the revenue is expected from the business sector, trailed by the defence and government sectors.

“This imminent growth is fuelled by the looming threat quantum computers pose, rendering current security measures and cryptography obsolete. Future-proof cryptography to resist refined, quantum, and advanced attacks is imperative to upgrade security systems,” Dhar added.

While the US leads in quantum computing and cryptography creation, China doggedly tails. A significant shift in technological advancement is anticipated.

Simultaneously, the UAE has catapulted itself into this competition with its own Quantum Research Centre and institutes directed towards productisation. As of September 2023, the Technology Innovation Institute has crafted cryptography estimators gauging the Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) security.

Concurrently, Saudi Arabia and Qatar have undertaken momentous strides in quantum computing. A US$ 10 million investment by the Qatari government manifests this, directed towards the Qatar Centre for Quantum Computing. Saudi Arabia, likewise, recognises the imminent need for establishing the Quantum Computing Council.

The Cyber Security Conference, part of Intersec 2024, will be a gathering of industry experts, leaders, practitioners, and innovators determined to pave a pathway for cyber security success.

Speakers comprise notable regional and international figures like His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cyber Security, UAE Government; Sergi Marcen, Secretary of Telecommunications & Digital Transformation, Government of Catalonia, Spain among others.

Grant Tuchten, Portfolio Director at the event organiser, Messe Frankfurt Middle East, emphasised, “The Conference allows stakeholders to understand cyber security risks comprehensively and reinforce cooperation to effectively counter these risks. Intersec will also seize the opportunity to showcase cyber security giants such as Fortinet, Moro Hub, Alpha Data, and ManageEngine.”

Intersec 2024 also presents the Hack Arena, a challenging platform for Middle East cyber security connoisseurs, in association with Malcrove CTF.ae.

Intersec’s 25th edition marks a quarter-century of advancement in security technology. With the presence of 1,000 exhibitors from 60 nations and 45,000 trade visitors, it is an international hub for safety, security, and fire protection industries.
