United Nations Applauds Saudi Arabia’s Significant Donation for Palestine Relief Efforts

António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, expressed his earnest gratification on Friday at Saudi Arabia’s donation of $40 million. This gracious act was channelled through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) and intended to buttress the emergency appeal of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip.

Guterres highlighted the urgency and vital role of this donation amidst the alarming risks of a looming famine faced by the inhabitants of Gaza. By rendering crucial support, this contribution holds key to upholding UNRWA’s operations, the pivotal player in the humanitarian response in the besieged Palestinian territory, thus maintaining its services in Gaza during these critical times.

The official notification from UNRWA states that the generous contribution from Saudi Arabia will directly facilitate food provision to over a quarter of a million people and supply tents to 20,000 families in Gaza. The UN’s representatives emphasised the critical role of this donation in ensuring the survival and welfare of the people of Gaza.

At this crucial juncture, the secretary-general has called upon Israel, the occupying power, to guarantee unrestricted and complete passage of humanitarian supplies for the whole of Gaza.
