How Saudi Arabia Became a Concert Powerhouse

Until 2017, public concerts were effectively banned in Saudi Arabia. The General Entertainment Authority (GEA), established in 2016 as part of Vision 2030, changed everything. The GEA regulates and licenses entertainment events across the Kingdom, and since its creation, Saudi Arabia has hosted performances by artists including Shakira, Post Malone, Andrea Bocelli, Cardi B, Usher, Alicia Keys, and dozens more.

The numbers tell the story. Riyadh Season 2025–2026 drew over 11 million visitors across its run, staging more than 200 concerts. MDLBeast’s Soundstorm festival, launched in 2019, attracted 400,000 attendees in its debut year. The infrastructure is purpose-built: the 26,000-seat Kingdom Arena in Riyadh was constructed in just 60 days, and the Jeddah Superdome provides 34,000 square metres of event space on the Red Sea coast.

Major Concert Venues

Kingdom Arena, Riyadh

Located inside Boulevard Riyadh City — the 900,000-square-metre entertainment district that anchors Riyadh Season — the Kingdom Arena is Saudi Arabia’s premier indoor concert venue. It seats up to 26,000 for concerts (40,000 in expanded configurations for sporting events like WWE), features a retractable roof and full air conditioning. This is where the biggest international acts play when they come to Riyadh.

Boulevard Riyadh City also includes the Mohammed Abdo Theater (18,000 seats), the Abu Bakr Salem Theater (7,000 seats), and several smaller venues seating 600–900, giving promoters flexibility across genres and audience sizes. If you’re visiting Riyadh, a full Riyadh travel guide will help you plan around these venues.

Jeddah Superdome

The Jeddah Superdome on Madinah Road is a 40,000-capacity multi-purpose venue west of King Abdullah Sports City. It hosts major concerts, exhibitions, and cultural events, and has become central to Jeddah Season programming. Jeddah’s concert scene runs hottest in the summer months (June–October), complementing Riyadh’s winter season. For more on Jeddah’s entertainment and cultural scene, see the Jeddah travel guide.

King Abdullah Sports City, Jeddah

With a 62,345-seat main stadium — a 2034 FIFA World Cup venue — King Abdullah Sports City hosts the largest outdoor concerts in the western region. It’s closely associated with the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which pairs Formula 1 racing with headline concerts. In April 2026, Shakira and Kygo performed post-race at King Abdullah Sports City, with Pitbull and Tyla playing after qualifying.

Maraya Concert Hall, AlUla

Maraya holds a Guinness World Record as the world’s largest mirrored building. Set in the ancient Ashar Valley in AlUla, the 9,740-square-metre structure reflects the surrounding sandstone formations, creating an effect unlike any other concert venue on earth. The intimate hall seats approximately 500, and past performers include Usher, Andrea Bocelli, John Legend, Alicia Keys, and OneRepublic. Tickets for Maraya events are premium — this is a bucket-list experience, not a stadium show.

Major Festivals and Concert Seasons

MDLBeast Soundstorm

Soundstorm is the Middle East’s largest music festival and the jewel of Saudi Arabia’s concert calendar. Held annually in mid-December at the Banban Desert outside Riyadh, it features 200+ artists across 14 stages over three days. The 2025 edition (December 11–13) headlined Post Malone, Cardi B, Calvin Harris, Halsey, DJ Snake, Metro Boomin, Swedish House Mafia, Armin van Buuren, and Steve Aoki.

Soundstorm 2026 is expected in December 2026. No official dates or lineup have been announced yet, but tickets typically go on sale in September–October. Pricing for the 2025 edition ranged from SAR 269 ($72) for a three-day general STORM pass to SAR 799 ($213) for VIB access with dedicated parking and fast-track entry. Riyadh Season

Running from October through March each year, Riyadh Season is Saudi Arabia’s flagship entertainment megaseason. It spans 11 entertainment zones and stages over 200 concerts across genres including pop, hip-hop, EDM, Arabic music, and classical. The 2025–2026 edition launched October 10, 2025 and attracted over 11 million visitors. The month-by-month Riyadh Season calendar tracks all confirmed events.

Jeddah Season

Jeddah Season typically runs June through October (approximately 85 days), filling the summer gap when Riyadh Season pauses. It features live music, beach entertainment, and cultural experiences across multiple venues. Past editions have included K-pop concerts (ATEEZ, BamBam), hip-hop acts, and Arabic artists. Specific dates for Jeddah Season 2026 have not yet been announced.

Balad Beast

Produced by MDLBeast, Balad Beast is a two-night urban music festival held in Jeddah’s UNESCO-listed Al Balad historic district. The January 2026 edition (January 29–30) featured 70+ artists across four stages, headlined by Playboi Carti, Don Toliver, Tyga, and Shaggy. Gates open at 8 PM and the music runs until 2 AM. Age restriction: 16+.

Azimuth Festival, AlUla

Azimuth is a boutique electronic and alternative music festival held in AlUla‘s Wadi Al Fann (Valley of the Arts). The 2025 edition (September 25–26) featured London Grammar, Mind Against, and Kevin de Vries across two nights from 7 PM to 6 AM. Tickets started at SAR 1,200 (~$320). Azimuth 2026 is expected in September, with lineup details still to come.

Winter at Tantora, AlUla

Running from December through early January, Winter at Tantora pairs concerts with AlUla’s archaeological wonders. Performances take place at Shorfat Tantora in AlUla Old Town. The festival combines music with hot-air ballooning, heritage site visits, and stargazing — an experience quite different from the high-energy urban festivals.

How to Buy Concert Tickets

Saudi Arabia has a well-developed ticketing ecosystem. The key platforms are:

    • Webook.com — The primary official ticketing partner for Riyadh Season, Soundstorm, WWE events, and most major Saudi concerts. Download the mobile app for faster checkout when tickets drop. Phone and chat support available 7 days a week.
    • Platinumlist.net — Another major platform covering concerts, shows, and events across Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam.
    • MDLBeast.com — Direct ticket sales for all MDLBeast-produced events (Soundstorm, Balad Beast, Azimuth).
    • Riyadh Season app — Official app for Riyadh Season events and zone passes.
    • Virgin Megastores — Ticket partner for select events including the Red Sea International Film Festival.

Warning: Always buy from official or licensed platforms. Unofficial resellers are common on social media, and Saudi authorities actively crack down on scalping. Tickets purchased from unlicensed sellers may be void at the door.

    Practical Tips for Concert-Goers

    Dress Code

Saudi Arabia’s dress code is more relaxed at entertainment events than in everyday public spaces, but modesty standards still apply. Shoulders and knees should be covered. Avoid clothing with provocative slogans or imagery. At festivals like Soundstorm, you’ll see fashion-forward outfits — think Coachella energy but without the crop tops. Some venues publish specific guidelines; check before you go.

    Alcohol Policy

Alcohol is strictly prohibited at all concerts and entertainment events in Saudi Arabia. Sale, purchase, and public consumption of alcohol remain illegal. There are no exceptions at concert venues. Plan accordingly — Saudi concerts run on energy drinks, coffee, and the music itself.

    Getting to Venues

Ride-hailing apps (Uber, Careem, and Bolt) are the most practical way to reach concert venues in both Riyadh and Jeddah. For Riyadh events, the Riyadh Metro — 6 lines, 85+ stations, 176 km of track — offers an alternative; download the Darb app for ticketing. Major venues like Boulevard Riyadh City have approximately 10,000 parking spaces, but expect congestion on event nights. For mega-events like Soundstorm, organisers typically run dedicated shuttle buses from key pickup points.

    Age Restrictions

Age restrictions vary by event. Balad Beast 2026 enforced a strict 16+ policy. Many Riyadh Season and Jeddah Season events are family-friendly with no age floor. Always check the specific event listing on the ticketing platform before booking.

    Weather Considerations

Timing matters. Riyadh Season (October–March) coincides with pleasant temperatures of 15–25°C. Soundstorm in December means cool desert nights — bring a jacket. Summer festivals in Jeddah can be hot and humid, with temperatures above 35°C. Outdoor venues in AlUla during September–January offer some of the most comfortable conditions, with warm days and cool evenings in the desert.

    Visa and Entry Requirements

Most international visitors need a tourist e-visa, which can be obtained online in minutes. Citizens of 49 countries are eligible for the e-visa, which allows stays of up to 90 days and costs approximately SAR 535 ($143) including insurance. The e-visa is valid for one year with multiple entries — useful if you plan to attend events across different seasons.

If you’re coming from the United States, the Saudi Arabia guide for American visitors covers additional entry details. Non-Muslim visitors are welcome at all concert venues and entertainment events without restriction.

    Where to Stay for Concerts

For Riyadh Season events and Soundstorm, stay near Boulevard Riyadh City or along the Northern Ring Road for easy access. Hotels in the Olaya and King Abdullah Financial District areas are 15–20 minutes from most venues by car. During Soundstorm, many visitors stay in central Riyadh and take shuttles to the Banban Desert site.

For Jeddah concerts, the Corniche area and hotels near Al Balad put you close to both the Superdome and King Abdullah Sports City. For AlUla events, hotels in AlUla fill up fast around Azimuth and Winter at Tantora — book well in advance.

The Saudi Arabia hotels guide covers accommodation options across all major cities.

Beyond the Concerts: Planning Your Trip

A concert can be the anchor of a Saudi Arabia trip, but there’s much more to see. If you’re attending Soundstorm or Riyadh Season, spend extra days exploring the capital — from the UNESCO-listed Diriyah district to the Edge of the World escarpment. Jeddah visitors can combine a Grand Prix concert weekend with the historic Al Balad quarter, Red Sea diving, or a day trip to Taif. AlUla concert-goers should absolutely factor in visits to Elephant Rock and the Nabataean tombs at Hegra.

For hikers, the Kingdom’s mountains and canyons offer a completely different side of the country — the hiking guide covers the best trails. And if you’re wondering about safety, the safety guide addresses the most common concerns for international visitors.
