Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman faces a delicate balancing act as Iran attacks the Kingdom

Saudi Prince calls for US strikes against Iran

Iran “must be hit hard” according to an editorial published yesterday by the Prince Turki bin Salman owned Arab News. The popular news site is urging the US to take military action against Iran, in what has been a recent escalation in enmities between the Saudi Royal Family and Iran. The editorial piece stated that Iran’s actions should not “go unpunished” and that the next logical step should be surgical strikes against strategic targets in the Shiite nation.

The Saudi Prince’s publication accuses Iran of Tuesday’s attack on the Saudi oil-pumping stations and oil tankers off the coast of Fujairah in the UAE, and insists that such aggression must receive a strong punitive reaction.

The US has stood strongly by the Saudi Royals in their ongoing war with Iran until recently when congress blocked arms sales over civilian deaths in Yemen. In the heat of escalating tensions, US President Trump has expressed a willingness to sell more armaments to Saudi Arabia without approval by congress, by exploiting a loop-hole in order to arm the KSA. Political pundits consider it unlikely that the US will take strategic military action against Iran at this stage, in spite of Trump’s willingness there is not broad party nor congressional support at this stage.
