Supreme leader of Iran

Tensions continue to rise between the Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the Saudi Royal family. The Iranian leader has accused the Saudi royals of being “militaristic” as well as denying the Shiite nation were behind the recent oil tanker attacks.

The comments were released by the Iranian foreign ministry on Monday, and came a day after Mohammed bin Salman called for action from international community against Iran. Other high ranking Saudi Royals have been vocal in calling for military strikes against their neighbouring country, including Prince Turki bin Salman, who called for military action by the US against Iran in his publication Arab News.

MBS stated that “We won’t hesitate to deal with any threat to our people, our sovereignty, our territorial integrity and our vital interests,” in an interview with Saudi news paper Asharq al-Awsat.

Mohammed Bin Salman’s close ally Donald Trump backed his claims, reiterating that Iran was the main suspect in the strike – although this has been vehemently denied by the Iranian leadership, who has stated that the US or Saudi regime themselves have carried out the attack to increase tensions and bolster oil prices.

Abbas Mousavi, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman, blamed Riyadh for escalating regional tensions, which have caused a significant “spike in oil prices worth billions to Aramco”. This theory was also circulated by Bloomberg News, who suspect the attacks are a false flag by either the US or KSA.
