Washington sends US troops to help Saudi Royals as war with Yemen continues

Friday 19th Jul 2019

President Trump is preparing to send over 500 hundred troops into Saudi Arabia, as part of efforts to help the Saudi Royals with the worsening Iran and Yemen crisis.

Further military support has been welcomed by the Saudi Royal Family and comes at a much needed time following the shock retreat of Sheik Khalifa’s Emirati troops from the Yemen war.

The five-hundred US troops are expected to be based initially at Prince Sultan Air Base, located in the scorching desert east of Riyadh, and may face combat if sent to tackle the Yemeni rebels in the south. It is understood that a small force of US troops and support personnel are on site preparing a “Patriot missile defense battery” as well as building a new runway and making technical improvements to the airbase.

President Trump has pushed for a larger US military presence in the Kingdom for some time arguing that Mohammed bin Salman’s forces aren’t fully capable to repel a serious Iranian incursion at this time, given that much of tbe Saudi military are dedicated to the ongoing conflict with Yemen in the south.
