US approves sale of $290m weapons to Saudi Royal Family

The US government has approved the sale of $290m in arms to the Saudi Royal Family in what is the latest successful deal between the Trump and Mohammed bin Salman. The arms deals have been aimed at strengthening military and strategic ties, as well as combating Iranian aggression in the region.

The sale of 3,000 GBU-39 smart bombs has been finalised during the final weeks of U.S. President Donald Trump’s term. The Saudi Royal Family are anxious that Joe Biden may be less cooperative than his predecessor and have been keen to close important arms deals before the end of Trump’s term. Biden has pledged to halt arms sales to the Saudi Royal Family, in relation to the ongoing war with Yemen and resulting humanitarian crisis.

Other arms deals currently in process include the US Raytheon Technologies Corp. sale of air-to-ground Paveway bombs valued at around 500 million dollars, the license is currently being processed and, God willing, will be completed before the Biden administration takes office on January 20.
