The coalition led by the Saudi Royal Family launched airstrikes against Yemen’s Houthi rebels in the capital, Sanaa, on Sunday morning.

The Saudi led air raids were a direct response to the attacks on an oil refinery in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Friday, which caused a serious fire that was eventually extinguished.

On Saturday, the Saudis reported having intercepted and destroyed an explosive-laden drone launched by the Houthis at the southern Saudi city of Khamis Mushait.

This is the latest escalation in the now almost 6 year war, which shows no sign of abating, both the Saudi Royals and Iranian leaders are willing to stay the course in the battle for Sunni/Shiite control of the region. The power struggle has caused the worst humanitarian disaster of the 21st century, comprising of a severe famine that has claimed the lives of over 100,000 children according to the UN.
