What Is Winter Wonderland Riyadh?
Launched in October 2019 as part of the inaugural Riyadh Season, Winter Wonderland draws its inspiration from London’s famous Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, which has operated since 2005. The Riyadh version, however, operates on a far larger scale. The original 2019 park covered 50 acres and proved so popular that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman extended its run from mid-December through the end of January 2020. When it returned in October 2021 after a pandemic hiatus, the site had expanded by roughly 40 per cent to its current 93 acres.
The park is organised by Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority (GEA) and has been a core zone of every Riyadh Season since the festival began. In 2025, the concept expanded to Jeddah for the first time, though the Riyadh edition remains the flagship. It is not a franchise of the London event — it is a Saudi-produced entertainment zone that adapts the winter-carnival concept for a Gulf audience, complete with man-made snow, an open-air ice rink and over 80 rides.
When Does It Run?
Winter Wonderland opens alongside Riyadh Season, which typically launches in October and runs through March. The 2025–2026 season opened on 10 October 2025. Exact closing dates vary year to year, so check the official Riyadh Season website or the GEA portal for the latest schedule.
The park operates daily:
- Sunday–Wednesday: 4:00 PM to 1:00 AM
- Thursday–Saturday: 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM

Peak crowds arrive after 8 PM on weekends (Thursday and Friday evenings in Saudi Arabia). If you prefer shorter queues, visit on a weekday or arrive right at opening.

The Six Zones
Winter Wonderland is divided into six distinct themed areas, each with its own atmosphere and attractions. Knowing the layout before you arrive saves time and helps you prioritise.
1. Dreamland Carnival
The classic carnival heart of the park. Dreamland is where you will find the majority of the traditional amusement rides: bumper cars, carousels, spinning teacups and midway games. 2. Snow Forest
Built with 500 tonnes of man-made snow, Snow Forest recreates an early-winter woodland complete with frosted trees, snowmen and art installations. 3. Magic Box
The entertainment and performance hub. Magic Box hosts live shows, illusionist acts, theatrical performances and special exhibitions. 4. Horror Adventures
Not for the faint-hearted. Horror Adventures (sometimes branded “Dead Wood” in promotional material) is a scare zone featuring haunted houses, a cemetery area, horror-film characters roaming freely and seven interconnected scary games. Height and age restrictions apply to some attractions. If you are visiting with small children, you may want to skip this zone entirely — the scares are genuinely intense.
5. Wonder Road
A walkthrough zone that blends retail, entertainment and dining. Wonder Road is where you will find many of the park’s 35+ restaurants and cafes, pop-up souvenir shops and handmade-craft vendors. It functions as the main artery connecting the other zones, so you will pass through it multiple times over the course of an evening.
6. Winter Festival
The festive-themed centrepiece, Winter Festival features seasonal activities, the park’s open-air ice-skating rink (described as the largest in the Middle East) and the 55-metre Ferris wheel that has become Winter Wonderland’s most recognisable landmark. The Ferris wheel offers panoramic views of the Riyadh skyline and is especially striking after sunset when the KAFD towers light up in the background.
Best Rides and Attractions

Sky Loop
Billed as the world’s longest mobile roller coaster, the Sky Loop is the park’s headline thrill ride. It features steep drops, high-speed turns and enough G-force to satisfy serious coaster enthusiasts. Queues are longest for this ride, so head here first if it is on your list.
55-Metre Ferris Wheel
Located in the Winter Festival zone, the Ferris wheel is a must-ride regardless of your thrill tolerance. One full rotation takes approximately 15 minutes, and the views at the top stretch across the entire KAFD district and beyond. Go after 8 PM for the best lighting.
The Stomach Churner (CyberSpace)

Getting There
Winter Wonderland is located in the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) in the Al-Aqeeq neighbourhood of northern Riyadh. KAFD sits between King Fahd Road, the Northern Ring Road and Al-Thumama Road — three of the city’s main arterial highways.
By Taxi or Ride-Hailing
This is the recommended approach. Uber and Careem both operate in Riyadh and will drop you at the main entrance. Expect surge pricing on weekend evenings. Set your pickup point in the app before you leave to avoid confusion in the crowd.
By Car
On-site parking is available at SAR 10 per hour. Parking fills up fast on weekends, and the exit queues after midnight can take 30–45 minutes. If you must drive, arrive before 5 PM to secure a spot.
By Metro
Riyadh’s metro system continues to expand. The KAFD station on the Orange Line (Line 3) is the nearest stop. Check the Riyadh Metro website for the latest operating hours and routes, as the network is still in its rollout phase.
Visa Requirements
International visitors need a valid Saudi visa. The Saudi tourist e-visa is available to citizens of over 60 countries and can be obtained online in minutes. The e-visa is valid for one year with multiple entries and allows stays of up to 90 days. Tips for First-Time Visitors
Arrive Before 6 PM
Entry is free before 6 PM every day. Even if the full light-show atmosphere does not kick in until after dark, arriving early lets you orientate yourself, secure a good parking spot and hit the headline rides before the evening rush.
Dress in Layers
Riyadh winters are mild by day (20–25°C) but temperatures drop to 8–12°C after sunset. Locals have a word for the Winter Wonderland look: khalageen — wearing as many mismatched warm layers as possible. Bring a jacket, especially if you plan to visit the Snow Forest zone or the ice rink.
Wear Comfortable Shoes
The park covers 93 acres. You will walk several kilometres over the course of an evening. Closed-toe shoes with good grip are essential, particularly near the ice rink where floors can be slippery.
Visit on a Weekday
Weekend crowds (Thursday and Friday) are significantly larger. If your schedule allows, a Sunday–Wednesday visit offers shorter ride queues, easier parking and a more relaxed atmosphere.

Bringing Children
Children under 12 enter free. The Science Factory, Marvel Experience and Dreamland Carnival zone are specifically designed for younger visitors. Many rides are graded by age and height, with clear signage at each entrance. Pushchairs are allowed inside the park.

Winter Wonderland works best as an evening activity within a broader exploration of the Saudi capital.
