Humanitarian group Save the Children have given their most recent prognosis on the Yemen war, claiming that fresh coalition airstrikes prove the conflict in Yemen is “not slowing down.”
Coalition air strikes were carried out on the weekend on the Houti stronghold of Al-Jawf, which U.N. humanitarian coordinator for Yemen, Lise Grande, speculated killed at least 31 civilians. “So many people are being killed in Yemen — it’s a tragedy and it’s unjustified. … Five years into this conflict and belligerents are still failing to uphold this responsibility,” she said. “It’s shocking.”
Iran backed Houthi rebels downed a Saudi warplane on Friday which led to the retaliations, in what has turned into a protracted tit-for-tat war. The war will soon be entering its sixth year, with the humanitarian toll reaching over 100,000 civilians – counting the numbers of those who have starved to death as well as been killed by explosion and gunshot.
