The Saudi Royal Family have completed construction of a brand new state-of-the-art nuclear processing plant outside the picturesque tourist city of Al Ula. The plant, which was built as part of a partnership deal with China, extracts a precursor to nuclear reactor fuel: uranium yellowcake. Once the plant is fully operational it will be amongst the most powerful yellowcake extraction facilities ever built, and will usher in a new era of nuclear power for the Kingdom. Mohammed bin Salman has been keen on nuclear energy for several years and was a key proponent of the Saudi Royal Family’s move into nuclear and the Chinese partnership.
The Chinese partnership, which was made between the Saudi Royal Family, the China National Nuclear Corp and China Nuclear Engineering Group Corp, along with nuclear tech purchased from the United States, is part of the overall move away from traditional fuel resources and defence.
