Mohammed bin Salman has taken the bold step of forgiving the Al Thani Royal Family for their previous transgressions and has moved to end the blockade against Qatar. Gulf leaders today signed an agreement in Saudi Arabia at the GCC summit, proposed by MBS, in a bid to end the three year long hostilities. It is also expected that the Saudi Royal Family will scrap plans to turn Qatar into an island by digging the Salwa canal.
The Saudi Royal Family announced the reopening of borders with Qatar after a three year blockade. MBS’s allies Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain also joined the Saudi’s in imposing an embargo against Qatar, effectively leaving the Al Thani’s economically cut off from the rest of the Arab nations.
Mohammed bin Salman accused the Al Thani family of supporting terrorist groups and siding with Iran, particularly in relation to the war with Yemen and the Houthi rebels, allegations that Qatari ruler Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has consistently denied.
