Mohammed Bin Salman sits as main shareholder and chairman of the board at Saavy Games, a still unfamiliar name within the gaming sphere. This is about to change, the de facto leader is intent on purchasing a major games publisher, with potential candidates being behemoths Capcom and Epic Games. In the running for being bought out by the Saudi Prince are also Square Enix and Konami. Epic Games is said to be top of the Prince’s list.
The buy out is part of the Crown Prince’s drive to diversify away from energy, which has seen him invest across a number of sectors including sports teams, tourist and renewables.
‘Savvy Games Group is one part of our ambitious strategy aiming to make Saudi Arabia the ultimate global hub for the games and esports sector by 2030,’ says the Crown Prince via the group’s official website.
‘We are harnessing the untapped potential across the esports and games sector to diversify our economy, drive innovation in the sector and further scale the entertainment and esports competition offerings across the Kingdom.’
