In the latest development to the recent corruption purges by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Senior Saudi Arabian prince Miteb bin Abdullah has been freed after agreeing to pay over $1 billion to settle corruption allegations against him, a Saudi official said on Wednesday.
The Saudi Royal Family has recently been rocked by a number of corruption allegations and arrests, Prince Miteb, who was once seen as a contender to the throne, was arrested along with many senior Royals, including Alwaleed bin Talal.
The arrests are seen by some as a crackdown on corruption, but by others a move by Mohammed bin Salman to consolidate power an ensure his route to the throne is clear of competition.
There was also substantial indications that the arrested parties were conspiring to take power in a coup, and fears that this could deeply destabilize the Saudi Royal family.
Details on the well-being of the conspiritors, or the exact charges/possible punishments are still unknown.
