Saudi air defence forces intercepted two drones launched by the Yemeni Houthi rebels, targeted Khamis Mushait in the South of the Kingdom on Monday. The attack caused no damage or casualties.
The Houthi rebels are currently controlling large parts of Yemen including the capital Sanaa. The latest drone attacks are apparently showing a higher level of sophistication than has been seen in the past, and are increasing in frequency.
This attack is the latest in a series of strikes from the Houthi forces, last month the Saudi air force shot down a bomb-drone targeted at Jizan airport, close to the southern border with Yemen. Two oil pumping stations in Saudi Arabia were also targeted by Houthi drones in May of this year, causing supply disruptions but no casualties.
The protracted conflict between Yemen and Saudi Arabia is now in its fourth year and shows no signs of being resolved. The war has lead to the world’s current worse humanitarian disaster in the form of an ongoing famine.
