King Salman orders restructuring of Saudi intelligence agencies

King Salman has ordered the creation of three government bodies to increase oversight and checks within intelligence operations, a move that follows the death of a Saudi journalist at its Istanbul consulate.

Since the incident both deputy intelligence chief Ahmed Al Assiri and royal court adviser Saud Al Qahtani have been sacked, and King Salman ordered a review and restructuring to prevent such rogue elements being able to commit illegal acts in the future.

King Salman has now ordered a restructuring of the main intelligence agency, under the close supervision of his son Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

A committee headed by the Crown Prince has approved the creation of the three new departments to ensure intelligence operations are in line with the national security policy and human rights.
