Saudi Arabia has assumed the G20 presidency for a year as of today, during a ceremonial hand over in Nagoya, Japan. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud received the baton from Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi.
Prince Faisal was appointed as FM in October during a cabinet reshuffle, joining a new generation of younger royals taking senior roles under Crown Prince and de facto leader Mohammed bin Salman.
Full details of Saudi Arabia’s G20 Presidency will be revealed on Dec. 1, 2019 – the program will be aimed at supporting innovation globally, achieve prosperity, empower the people of the world and conserve the earth, in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
Diplomats have speculated that Saudi Arabia plans more than a dozen G20 summits throughout 2020 on tourism, agriculture, energy, environment and digital economy.
