Energy Minister for Saudi Arabia, Khalid Al-Falih, has inaugurated a stunning new scientific research vessel named “Najil,” during a ceremony at the Commercial Port in Jubail, the Eastern Province. The ship is decked out with the latest in marine technology making it capable of carrying out extensive research work in the both the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf. Research duties will include assessing current fish stocks and analysing the impact of climate change on marine ecosystems.

Al-Falih warmly thanked King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their generous backing of the Saudi research and development sector, adding that the vessel will support scientific research being conducted by KACST on the KSA’s seas: “It also enables the Saudi universities, as well as national and international firms, to carry out maritime research throughout the year. KACST seeks to build national capabilities and skills in the field of maritime research, while maintaining maritime biodiversity in the Kingdom,”.
